Ecology is the study of ecosystems. An ecosystem is composed of the living, or biotic, factors as well as the aboitic, or non-living, factors of an environment and the way those factors interact.

The water in Mono Lake is three times as salty as water in the ocean: that's very salty! This means only a few organisms can survive here, making it the perfect, simple ecosystem to study. Click through the pictures below to see some of the animals that make up the Mono lake ecosystem.
